Horry County Schools is the third largest and fastest growing school district in South Carolina, and it is a nationally recognized school district for its leadership in technology. Nearly 40,000 students attend Horry County Schools. Twelve schools have been awarded Red Carpet School Awards, eight schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, and five schools received honors as Palmetto Gold and Palmetto Silver award winners for academic improvement on the Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test. The school district also has a Scholars Academy that provides quality education for advanced learners, an Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology which is notable for its small size and focus on specialized majors, an Academy for Technolgy and Academics which has an excellent reputation in delivering quality education using career and technology programs, an International Baccalaureate Organization program (Aynor High School and Socastee High School) that encourage students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners, and an early college initiative Business/Education Expectations (BE2) partnership that offers an expanded and innovative role for business and corporate involvement in the schools. And the Adult Education program supports adults in taking the next step in their education.
